Scan-Tek BlogsScan-Tek is an after-school club for small groups of Year
5 pupils. Each week they look at
different activities and report their feelings and finding here. Entries are in date order with the most
recent first. Group 1 have been
looking into Transportation, Group 2 at Machines and Group 3 are
investigating Numbers. 2nd
May 2007 By Rosie Group 3 In Scan-Tek we do lots
of different things and there are three separate assignments called: 1.Numbers 2.Machines 3.Transportation Sometimes we use the
computer to do some tests or quizzes.
So when you get a slip to come and join you know to tell your mum or
dad to sign it so you can do it. 14th
March 2007 By Jamie Group 1 This week of Scan-Tek we started assignment 7 and we have started building a massive aeroplane. It was very complicated and we had to put the parts the correct way round. 7th
March By Jamie Group 1 On the 7th of March
we learnt all about aeroplanes and made our own paper aeroplanes. On the ones we made we tore the wings at
the ends and made one end go up and one end go down. It spun round and round until it fell. 21st February By Jamie Group
1 Today we started off by doing
a test on the computers and then we went into receptions classroom and began
to make a raft with a sail. We then put it in water to see
what happened when we blew it and it floated; afterwards we tried doing the
same thing on land, it did not move. After that we made the sailing
boat into a paddleboat with its own paddle. It worked really well and went
from one side of the pool to the other. I had great fun at Scan-Tek! 31st January By Jamie Group 1 This week at Scan-Tek, we worked by ourselves without Mr Stamp-Dod for the first time! Much to Mr Stamp-Dod’s surprise, we got more done than he expected. First we changed the gear on
our car so that we had a bigger cog to make it go faster. Then we raced it 2 meters and timed
it. The car went about 40 tenths of a
second faster! We then went onto starting to
build a raft out of plastic tubes and joining them together with small, plastic
hooks. 31st January By Michael Group 1 This week we
finally finished the motorized car; also we made a racetrack and tested how
long it took to race two whole meters plus another quiz. It was
excellent! 31st
January By Jemima Group 2 Today was my first
day at Scan-Tek. I learnt so much that I didn’t already know about using the
computer to check my own work. It was great and, because Mr Stamp-Dod is such
a wonderful teacher, I can’t wait until next week. First of all Mr Stamp-Dod
explained to us all, all about what every single lever and pole was for and
what it did. Secondly he showed us how to make a luggage carrier. Finally we
had to complete a pre-test quiz that had been set up on the computer. It was
brilliant. 24th January By Jamie Group 1 This week at
Scan-Tek, we started off by making our model car into a remote control car;
being able to make it go forwards and backwards. Then we went onto the
computers and did a little test.
After that we worked out together the main parts of the car (e.g. the
axle). Finally we went back on the
computers and did another test. 24th January By Michael Group
1 This week we
did yet another quiz, sadly I got the lowest score. This week we started to build
a motorized car. That was the best thing I've done so far. Also we used a
force meter and using the old car we made last week did an experiment to see
how many Newton’s it took to pull 5 beanbags. Along the floor it took
8Newtons, on the car it took 3Newtons (approx), on rollers it took 5Newtons. 24th January By Sean Group 1 On the 3rd week of Scan-Tek we started
to put a motor on our racecar. When we finished putting the motor on, we all
had a go to control it. After we all had a go, we looked at a worksheet.
Finally we went onto the computer to have another test. The test was about
all of the things we already knew and learnt. This week Mr Stamp-Dod said
that he was taking another group and we would be on are own. I’m looking
forward to working together with my fellow classmates. 17th
January By Jamie Group 1 Firstly we improved our model
of a car that we made last week. Then
we put 12 beanbags into a sack and attached a Newton meter. We dragged the sack along the ground; the
Newton meter measured the force of it.
Next we pulled the sack across
some plastic tubes. We measured the
force that it took to do this with the Newton meter. We put the sack on our model
car and measured the force it took to pull it along. Finally we did a test on the computer. I enjoyed this weeks Scan-Tek! |
