Isleham Church of England Primary School PTA [Parent Teacher Association]

We are very fortunate at Isleham to have a PTA that is an integral part of the school community. The PTA has raised many thousands of pounds all of which has been spent on improving equipment, facilities and resources to enhance our children’s education.

The PTA also exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school. All parents, carers and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available, and all parents & carers are automatically members of the Association when they join our school. We also welcome friends of the school and members of the village community.

Role Of The Committee

Our PTA Committee consists of a Chair, two Vice-Chairs, a Treasurer and a Secretary. We also have a number of other Committee members to make up the full Committee. The Committee meets on a regular basis, at least once per half term, with smaller working groups meeting as necessary to organise our bigger events such as the annual Pantomime and the Christmas Fair.

Lesley Ann Thompson – Chair [Heather Cannan – Shadow Chair]

Karen Allitt – Joint Vice Chair

Marie Bowker – Joint Vice Chair

Marianne Corbin – Treasurer

Julie Porter – Secretary

Lisa Luker – Minutes

We currently have over 30 members on the PTA and we are always keen to have more volunteers and helpers. Please feel free to contact any member of the committee who will be happy to chat to you about the PTA and what is involved.

How We Spend The Money We Raise

Usually Mrs Ellerker and her staff will provide a ‘shopping list’ of items that the school would like to purchase. In addition the children from the school will also directly approaching the PTA with an idea of something they would like the PTA to purchase. For example last year the playground committee asked the PTA for picnic tables for the playground. The PTA has also raised money for numerous other items and school equipment including laptops, the staging in the hall and most notably the school swimming pool which is enjoyed by pupils and their families & friends.

It is important to understand that the PTA funds are for the ‘extras’ not provided by the school budget, that make our children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting. PTA funds are not generally spent on improving the fabric of the school buildings as this is the responsibility of the Governing Body. We always endeavour to spend our funds in ways that will benefit all our children across all areas of the school and curriculum.

How We Get Information To You

We hope to keep everyone informed about the activities going on in school so there will be regular letters giving dates for forthcoming events and also updates and requests for help when we are planning large events ! Following events, we hope to write to let you know how much was raised and, if we can, we tell you then what the money will be spent on.

PTA letters are sent home via your children or posted on the PTA pages of the school website and we are also hoping to increase the use of e-mail.

A PTA Newsletter is published every term giving an update of all our events, a summary of the amount raised and keeping you informed about any equipment we have bought for the school.

How Can You Get Involved

There are lots of ways you can help and support your child and the school through the PTA.

Offering to help before events, or at other times during the year, is invaluable. It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you can’t come into school. There are always little jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare – for example, wrapping gifts, preparing raffle tickets, etc. Any time you can give, or help you can offer is always very welcome so please do respond to any requests for volunteers or help if you are able.

You can also attend any meeting and give us your ideas for fundraising events without feeling committed to the PTA. Our meetings are always very informal & friendly and it offers a great opportunity to meet people, ask questions or voice your opinion.
